Authors Let Ebay Bidders Decide on Character Names
|
Some of the world's top authors will give you the chance to name their characters...if you're the winning bidder, that is. Neil Gaiman, John Grisham, Stephen King, Nora Roberts, Amy Tan and a host of other bestselling authors are putting the rights to name their characters up for auction on Ebay.
The authors aren't handing over the reins completely, though. King says the winning bidder of his auction will get to name a rather nasty character in his next zombie novel. Gaiman says his winning bidder will get to choose the name for a tombstone. Grisham says he'll portray the character name chosen for his next book favorably.
These famous authors aren't getting lazy. The character name auctions are all for charity to benefit the First Amendment Project. The group fights court battles to protect free speech rights of activists, artists and writers.
The auctions will go live on September 1 and run for 25 days. They're expected to raise $50,000 for the group. |
